About The House

Here’s What You Need To Know

Please read below to make the most of your time in our place… and if you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask us any time!

If you want to see the pictures of the space, please…

Living Area & Fireplaces

The living area is a large loft style space with exposed rafters, a queen sized bed, pull out sofa (sleeps 2), and a pull out seat (sleeps 1).

The house also has a wood burning stove inside and a fire pit outside. Please make sure the trap lever on the wood burning stove is open (angled vertically) when making a fire inside, otherwise you’ll have a smoky house inside!!! Firewood can be purchased at a near-by grocery store (The Great American) or most gas stations/hardware stores in the area.

The Kitchen

There’s a fully equipped kitchen inside and a charcoal grill outside. We have all the tools and utensils needed. For indoor dining, you can sit at the counter (seats 2) or at the table (seats 4).

The Bathroom

Our bathroom has a shower but no bath tub. It is fully stocked with towels and local soaps, shampoo/ conditioner, etc. There are many supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning products, dish soap, etc.) under the kitchen and bathroom sinks.

Toys & Patio

Please use the paddle board, kayaks, and inner tubes when the weather is warm. For the winter, please use our sleds.

The yard has patio furniture. The cushions are in the storage bin outside- please return when finished so they don’t get wet.

Laundry & Basement

There is a washer and dryer in the basement. Enter through the patio doors on the main level. The basement is unfinished and is mainly used for tool and construction material storage.

The Hot Tub

The Japanese cedar hot tub outside is a bit of a project to use but well worth it if you have the time! First, fill it with water all the way above the metal enclosure that houses the firewood. If the water is not filled to the top it will scorch the outside wooden top. Next, light the fire. Depending on the temperature outside, it can take from 6-8 hours to heat. Drain before you leave by pulling the plug. Check out more explicit instruction at Redwood Cedar Hot Tubs. Please read/view them carefully!

Rainy Day

The house is equipped with some books, art materials, and board games. There is a VHS cassette tape player and a pretty awesome collection of VHS movies. The TV is not a smart TV but it does have an HDMI cable.

Swimming In The Creek

There’s a popular swimming hole a few hundred yards down the road (where the dam is). If you are more adventurous climb down the rocks directly across the road in front of the house.

The Study

There is a small extra room with a desk that’s perfect for remote work or privacy. Beds can be moved into this room. There are also air mattresses. The room leads to a small balcony. The room is unheated, so use a space heater during the cooler weather.

Storage

There are large pull out drawers underneath the bed for storing your personal items.

Outside String Lights

The outdoor lights provide nice light in the yard in the evening. To turn them off, unplug the string from the connection at the bottom of the outside stairs right next to the wall.

Drinking Water

The water is perfectly safe to drink and cook with. If the “Catskills taste” is not to your liking, then we recommend bottled jug of water!

Trash & Wildlife

The house is next to a mountain/forest, so there will likely be some bugs and other wildlife around. Seasonally we see ants, ladybugs, millipeds, spiders, field mice, etc.

Trash goes into the large black bins in the basement- please tie the bags when taking them out of the kitchen! Unfortunately there is no recycling in town. You can bring recycling to the Hunter or Windham transfer stations, 15 20 minutes away. Pick-up is on Sundays- Ronnie comes by to get it from the basement!

Heating/Cooling

The house has a working heating system- thermostat is on the wall. But for extra coziness, make a fire in the wood burning stove, or use space heaters.

There’s also an air conditioner in the window and fans to use during warmer months.

Blinds & Windows

To use the blinds push/pull them up and down by hand from the bottom.
